I've now noticed the same issue that raphael described earlier where I cannot rename a device without loosing the RRD files.

To test I created a device with its original name (the ip address in this case), waited for the interfaces to start graphing (made sure the RRD files generated) and then renamed the device.  The original RRD files did not move and I saw that eventually that a new set of RRD files generate and eventually started graphing.  This took about the same time as a newly modeled device would take.  Once the device graphed again with its new name I renamed the device back to its original name (the ip) and the old RRD data and graph shows up.

I've also not been able to customize a performance graph at all but I believe these issues are related.
